WILD LINKS CANADA

Knight Inlet is located 80 kilometres north of Campbell River, British Columbia in a wild and remote area of the Pacific Northwest. It's home to one of the largest concentrations of brown grizzly bears in the province, where it's not uncommon to have 50 bears within 10 kilometres of your lodge. Several viewing platforms give you plenty of opportunity to observe the bears grazing along the shoreline or fishing for salmon. You can cruise the inlet to spot orcas, minke whales, porpoise, sea lions and seals.

The Kermode bear or "Spirit Bear" is a unique subspecies of the North American black bear in which approximately one in every 10 bears is white or cream-coloured. Some have orange or yellow coloration on their backs. Other Kermodes are all black. The spirit bear is a unique creature. It lives only on the Pacific coast of British Columbia, in Canada. The spirit bear is what scientists call an "umbrella species," that is, if a large enough suitable habitat can be protected for the spirit bear, many other species sharing the same ecosystem will also be protected under this umbrella; for example, salmon, birds, wolves, deer, grizzly bears, insects and many others.

Churchill, on the shores of Hudson Bay in Manitoba, Canada, is the self-proclaimed polar bear capital of the world. Bears congregate annually and are particularly abundant in October and November as they wait for the pack ice to form. Bear watching is from purpose built tundra buggies. Further afield in Manitoba, Nanuk and Watchee lodges offer polar bear viewing in more remote and secluded surroundings.
